1st Birthday Owl Party

It is such a cliche to say that "before you know it your kids are grown up". I remember the first few months with Addyson was very surreal and went very slow. I felt like I was soaking it all in.  I was sleep deprived, still in a lot of pain from the c-section, and stressed from being so scared I wasn't going to do something right, but through all of it, I was so in love with this child and would do it all over again.

Now a year later, it feels like it has flown by. I cherish those few months that went slow, but when  life outside the walls of my house seemed to become real again everything seemed to move at a super speed and BAM! We reached back around to where we started, but instead of long hospital stays and sleepless nights we got long hugs and birthday wishes.

Party favors were these adorable "ouchie" owls from

In love with these Garland Tassels inspired by Confetti System.
Found a great tutorial that I used after halfway making them and
realizing something just isn't right.

Seriously! $1 store has great party finds.

It was definitely a "HOOT"
(I just had to say it)

Season of Owls

It has been awhile since I have posted anything. Let me explain myself. Addyson's birthday is in 1 week. So the past month I have been a little obsessed with trying to plan/create her 1st birthday party. Themes have gone back and forth and of course I wanted to make all the decorations myself. The search was on to find great tutorials in hopes to find unique DIY projects. In all the searching I forgot to share all my finds :).But I have a list and will post them soon after the party.

I wanted to find something different for her birthday and think of something new, but  I have fallen in love with these normally creepy creatures.I am sure you have seen them around every corner you turn. Brings me to what this post is all about. Not parties, not even DIY decorations. It is about the Owls. :).
Are you needing an Owl fix today! Well I got it for you. Here are a few of my favorite finds. If you have a spot that you have seen some great things that have to do with anything owl please share!

Painting Greek Style: Edible Finger Paint

Many weekends I get so busy and forget to really spend time with Addy. Work doesn't end on Friday. Dinners, church activities, house work, grocery shopping, and just life  happens and before I can take a moment to just "play" with her,  the weekends over. Sunday night comes and the guilt arises in me and I always say next weekend I will do better. As a working mom I live daily with a bit of guilt due to not being able to be with her more. Talking to other working moms I realize I am not the only one! So to do better, I am making a list of activities to plan and do with Addy. Here is one of those activites.

This is for all you working mom's out there. An activity that is easy, fits into snack time, but I warn you it is a super mess. Hey!.. you can't have fun with out making a little bit of a mess. Let loose and enjoy the time!

Edible Finger Paint- Watch out we have an artist who loves to eat!

Very simple ingredients:
Greek Yogurt (I used Vanilla Orange Cinnamon flavor)
Food Coloring Gel (Drops will work too)
Small multi-purpose containers
Today we used a paper plate as our canvas

Addy got started before I could get a clean picture of her :). She started off doing really good dipping fingers and smearing.. oh i mean "painting".

Once she had her first taste it was all over she painted, ate, then finally started licking the plate.

Viola!

Surprisingly, the clean up was not a huge task. The color came up very easy. Hang your art work up to let dry over night! Great thing about the Greek yogurt is that it has the same consistency as regular finger paint it just take a bit longer to dry.

I have been on the look out for similar activities.. Let me know your ideas!

Thanks for sharing a play day with Addy.

Country Vintage 50th Birthday Bash

Somehow I managed to changed my alert ring to a tone that seems a little spooky to me. A few weeks ago I woke up hearing that noise in the middle of the night and saw the huge reminder of birthday's coming up. Thank you google calender for reminding me in enough time to get a party together for my mom's 50th birthday and thank you for getting my wheels turning to where I didn't sleep for the rest of the night trying to get it all planned before morning :).

So the planning began with a few emails sent out for any helpers to partake in the planning. Between our family and my mom's close friends this party was done with little cost to everyone involved.

Vintage party banners were made by Tracy at The Lively Lady shop on etsy. She has an amazing talent for sewing and this was her first go at making one of these party banners. The banners were perfect!

Scrapbook flowers were used for a different look instead of fresh flowers. Being in Texas right now and due to the scourching heat, all the beauty of flowers are shriveled up to a crisp. We did manage to find a few buds in the garden to have floating in the tops of the teacup serving trays.Last but not least, a party isn't a party until you have a birthday hat, pompoms, and a photobooth. Everyone was a good sport with the photobooth considering the 104 tempature outside. Tutorials on DIY vintage photo booth and scrap book flowers to come!

I love this party because it was simple and was set up to match who my mom is...well..one side of her. As the guest arrived, I sat back and had to chuckle. We had sweet pretty dessert table and seeing grown biker men grab cupcakes off the table was a site. I see a Harley Davidson theme party in the future just for you Jim :).

My favorite photo taken of the day! My mother's family!

Father's Day: "I love you when..."

Say it for them card (or photo book, collage, etc)

Father's Day has come and gone but finally getting this up. Addyson and I had just one hour to get this together. I do not suggest a one hour slot for this project on anyone. I might have gotten more smiles if we did one scene a day :), but we both survived and it actually was a lot of fun (besides the constant tough-a- war of the bow on her head).

From day one, my husband has been there for us through thick and thin, especially for our baby girl. So what a better way to let him know how much he is loved by having Addyson tell him herself. It started out with just a simple card idea then grew to many other scenes and in to a mini photo book.

Hope you enjoy

Just a few of the shots we got!

Addyson did a great job, or as best as a 7 month can be. I suggest have fun with the photo editing. I thought at first it was too much but looking at it now it just makes it interesting.

Its a new day. Its a new dawn.

Literally it's a new dawn. I am up in the middle of the night excited about starting this blog. I am usually more serious about my sleep :) but lately having a new baby in the house that seems to be the last thing on my mind.

A little introduction about me and why this blog: I am a new mom to the most precious little girl. I am sure every mom can relate to the surreal feeling of their first child, but I never thought having Addyson would shake my world up this much.
Pre-Addy: I am a dreamer not a doer, and boy do I dream up stuff (friends and husband can vouch for that), I love my sleep, I could care less what i ate, even with the many attempts to diet, and being a Suzy homemaker just isn't in my blood.
Post-Addy: I have definitely become a doer and my dreams have expanded to a different level. Maybe more of ones that I can actually reach. "Organic" is part of my vocabulary now and that is what I strive to buy in baby food, and working on the rest of our pantry. I try everyday to get this mom thing figured out from getting her on a good schedule that fits us all to trying to figure out how to already having dinner on the table even when I am driving up at 7pm for the day. (Just call me Suzy homemaker in the making).

Creating this blog is an outlet for me to share my ideas and creations. Party Planning, Sewing, Graphics, and even a little about how we are transitioning into healthier eating habits and just a more "organic" lifestyle are a few things you will see here. Let me know any party or gift ideas you might need help with and I will  research for you. There are several resources out there but why not just find it all in one place!

Thank you for letting me share my inspirations!
